Early Years Foundation

In our Foundation Stage, all children learn in a small group environment with a high adult to child ratio.

The children benefit from:

A broad and balanced curriculum including the Revised Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum adapted for specific language and communication disorders and to meet children’s individual learning needs.
Learning in small, progressive steps with multi-sensory specialist teaching to help the children gain full mastery of each skill before moving on.
Opportunities to learn through play and revisit the learning in free play session through toys and props linked to the topic, with adult support and scaffolding.
Speech and language therapy delivered daily by a Speech and Language Therapist who works with the class throughout the week.
Speech and Language Therapists are present for play sessions across the week to support play, social, relational and emotional skill development.
Daily occupational therapy group sessions planned and overseen by our onsite Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapists and delivered by a member of the Occupational Therapy Team.
Individual Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy if required.
Therapists are integral members of the nursery team and are involved in our planning, target setting and ongoing assessment of all children.
Arts therapy is available in a block format for pupils who would benefit from psychotherapeutic input.

We modify all the language we use in our nursery activities to account for the children’s needs and there is close liaison between the Speech and Language Therapist, the class teacher and all other staff involved with the children. All staff undergo training in Makaton as part of their continual professional development programme and we use this to support the pupils across their day.  

To enhance learning, we also take the children on trips where they may have the opportunity to integrate with others, including trips to the farm, local shops, and the local theatre. Joint placements with mainstream nurseries are possible, where the child attends Blossom House for at least three mornings per week and a mainstream setting for the rest of the week.
