Support at Blossom House School
We follow a tiered model of support, where all children have access to mental health and wellbeing input.
The Universal level of support is for all children and families. It is integrated into school life and includes supports such as wellbeing sessions in the curriculum, whole group wellbeing activities and trips, wellbeing focused discussions, regular ‘check-ins’ at the start of lessons, and the use of the Zones of Regulation programme. This forms part of the school ethos of person-centred care.
The Targeted level of support is for children where a worry about mental health and wellbeing has been identified. This might include scheduled 1:1 time with a member of staff, time with animals onsite or off-site, or time spent on particular interests of the child. This support is often a coordinated effort between the multi-disciplinary therapy team and pastoral care team leads.
The Specialist level is to support more complex mental health needs, or to provide more specialist help. This includes work with our Arts Therapies team, 1:1 work on specific mental health and wellbeing topics and referrals to external agencies such as Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).
Specialist and targeted supports may not be needed all of the time but may be helpful at certain points.
Your child’s Group Leader and Specialist Advisor is the person to contact should you have any concerns about your child’s mental health and wellbeing.
