English and Maths

English and Maths are taught in small groups (typically 1-4 students) onsite at Blossom House to all students who are yet to achieve a Level 2 qualification. Students study towards the GCSE or the Functional Skills qualifications, or towards AQA’s Unit Award Scheme, which recognises student’s achievements in these subjects without the need for formal exams.

Employability

The Employability pathway is a three-year provision for students who have achieved at Entry Level but who would not be able to engage independently with college courses. This is a five-day-a-week provision and the aim of the curriculum is to support students develop their skills, experience and understanding so that when they graduate, they are prepared for the world of work.

Students on the Employability pathway benefit from carefully managed work placements within the school, at our local café Blossom & Brew, and at two local charities: Voices of Hope and The Dons Trust. Students study English and Maths, and a Work Skills BTEC qualification, as well as working towards other qualifications relevant to the world of work. They receive group sessions of Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Arts Therapy, in addition to one-to-one therapy sessions if required.
